A notice from yours truly...
Perhaps you know, perhaps you don't - this year i've begun a diploma of fashion design. The hours are long, the work is intense - so i'm going to have to say a partial goodbye to this blog, to the world of illustration and to the vast and incomprehensible space of the internet for a while. Time is scarce and my priorities have changed. The attraction i had to painting has also shifted and now i feel it's time to recalibrate and learn to reignite the feeling of how much i loved it in the beginning. (When i didn't have to show it to anyone and it had nothing to do with commerce.)
Now is the time to focus on something different - I'm now learning a new set of skills from the ground up and am excited to embark upon this adventure of the mind and hands.
I shall still be here behind the scenes, so if anyone would like to contact me, then please do.
The etsy shop will still be open, and the illustrated dresses will still be for sale - perhaps i'll pop by with a new picture every now and then, but i think i'm going to be content just focusing on life for now.
It's been a pleasure - a delight - and now for something new. Wish me Luck.

Boys in Paint

Trying out some new things - applying paint in a rough, more opaque manner - on A3 sized board.
(so not small 8 x 12 rectangles, as usual).
I'm going through a stage where i don't draw for fun anymore - maybe because i'm preoccupied with sewing - but i'd like to fall in love with creating people on paper again.
If only these painted boys would come to life.

Lazing around over christmas led to extensive ebay searches and growing obsessions with Shirley Temple paraphernalia and 1930's composition dolls - (30 inch babies by effanbee and arranbee - and debuteens with little roller skates and swiss dot pinafores).
I spent alot of my time chanting 'baby doll, baby doll....' and squealing over listings of dollies with rosy knees, whose faces retained their perfect paint job and were not ruined by 'crazing'. (small spidery cracks in the paint.) Of course, this behaviour garnered many rolled eyes and shaken heads from my family. How old am i? Yeah, i'm not sure either.
I also decided that the very best job to have would to be an official doll doctor. Someone who sews on dangling limbs, replaces roaming glass eyes, re-roots mohair wigs and polishes the complexions of dusty dolls back to good health. This was actually a well regarded profession in the past, and i wish with all my heart that it still was a viable thing to do. I don't think there are any doll hospitals left in Sydney...
Last week, a little dream came true - i can't afford to spend $200 on a very old babydoll, so instead $2 well spent got me an envelope full of Shirley Temple clippings that span the years. I'm going to pin them up on the wall because honestly, she just makes me happy. I just sent my childhood tap shoes to the charity bins though, so i guess that stage of my life is over. I think i'm stuck in an adult childhood.
Living in a dreamland. It's better when i'm encased in these things.

print sale
2013 is going to be big year! I've got good news - I'm going back to school to study fashion design (full-time, eek!), which is something i'm super duper excited about. I'm conducting a big print sale to gather some extra funds to pay for course fees and tools.
All prints are 30% off if you enter the coupon code CUPID at checkout.
(discounts apply to whole orders so please be careful to only purchase prints.)
Thanks to those of you who support my work.
